On October 1, 2009, Hewlett-Packard acquired LeftHand SAN Networks, Inc. and renamed it HP LeftHand SAN Solutions. Prior to its HP acquisition, LeftHand Networks, founded in 1999, pioneered IP-based storage area networks (SANs). SANs built using LeftHand SAN/iQ software are uniquely able to distribute and protect data across a cluster of storage servers. The company's patented architecture increases data availability, allows users to start small and grow the SAN seamlessly, and simplifies management. The LeftHand SAN is ideal for storage and server consolidation, virtualized data centers, multi-site SANs, and disaster recovery. HP's acquisition of LeftHand Networks is scheduled to complete in first quarter 2009. LeftHand Networks SAN/iQ and other products interoperate with QLogic iSCSI adapters, Fibre Channel switches, and routers.
